What is a Plate Heat Exchanger?

Plate heat exchanger, also named as plate and frame heat exchanger, is a new – type and high – efficiency heat exchanger, which is consists of a series of metal sheets with corrugated shape. Thin rectangular channels are formed between the sheets, and the heat exchange is carried through the plate. The plate heat exchanger is ideal equipment used for liquid to liquid heat exchanging or liquid to gas heat exchanging. Because of high heat transfer efficiency with such a small size, the plate heat exchanger has made a great impact in domestic hot water, and also been widely used in combination boilers.
Generally, there are two types of plate heat exchanger - larger commercial plate heat exchanger uses gaskets between plats, while a smaller one tend to be brazed. The forms of corrugation also have two types: intermating and chevron corrugations. A chevron corrugation will produce greater heat transfer enhancement when given a increase in pressure drop, so it is more widely used than intermating corrugation.

Plate heat exchanger has been widely used in metallurgy, mining, petroleum, chemical industry, electric power, medicine, food, chemical fiber, paper, textile, shipbuilding, heating and other departments. And it has been serviced for many conditions including cooling, heating, evaporation, condensation, sterilization, waste heat recovery, etc.
